This Crank Seal Protection kit Cover is a preventative measure application designed to prevent the belt from entering the oil pan through the front crank seal, in the event of an serpentine belt failure.
The kit comes with 2 stainless steel replacement bolts, washers and 0.5ml of Loctite.
These are made out of a chunk of solid billet aluminum in a Mazak 3-Axis CNC mill. All which hold steady and tight tolerances. These will be stronger than the ebay welded versions that have been showing up recently, much higher quality, and are 50% to 100% cheaper than the other billet versions.
Of course, there are other obvious preventative maintenance items to replace such as the oil filter housing and oil cooler housing gaskets, new tensioner and pulleys and belt, new motor mounts, etc.. that will all help prevent the belt from snapping and should be done anyways at some point. But they still snap, whether it’s due to the tensioner failing randomly, or an oil or coolant leak. We still see cars with snapped belts and blown motors. This is a proven fix to the issue, since BMW didn’t want to find a solution, here it is!
